How To
How to drive a nails in wood
First, choose the right size and type of tool to drive a nail through wood. Claw hammers include mallets, claw hammers (sledgehammers), mallets, ball-peen hammers, hatchets, and mallets. Each type has its strengths and weaknesses. A claw hammer is best for hitting nails or hard objects. However, it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly where the blow will land. The sledgehammer works well for large areas, but is too heavy for smaller tasks.
After you've chosen the right tool, hold your hand flat to the handle so it rests comfortably in one of your palms. Take the handle and hold it with both hands. But don't press down so hard you injure yourself. Keep your wrist relaxed and the hammer straight up. Then swing the hammer back toward the ground, aiming for the center of the nail. You should feel the impact from the hammer striking a nail. Try practicing with a block to help you master the art of swinging a stick.
Once you are ready to drive the nail, place the hammer close to your body. You will need to position the nail so it is parallel to the wood. Keep your focus on the tip of each nail. Then, swing the hammer forward. Next, follow the motion of your hammerhead. Repeat this action several times, gradually increasing the speed of the swing. When you are confident with the technique, add power to your swings. Try holding the hammer above your shoulder and bring it down forcefully. This will help you put more energy behind each of your moves.
After you have nailed the hole, take the hammer off the nail. To pull out the remaining nails, use a screwdriver or pry bar. To avoid splitting the wood, make sure the nail heads are not touching the board's surface.
